One of my current projects is to support the World Affairs Council – International Education Washington Global Competence Certificate project. I have been meeting weekly this spring to talk with teachers and students who might be interested in joining this project. While we have outlined what it is and how students can earn it, we have not really had good examples of getting started, collecting evidence, and reflecting on it.
Although I’m not a high school student, really, anyone could create a Global Competence Certificate Portfolio. I think using a blog could be an easy way to start documenting experiences and reflections. A lot of those are going to be different during this time of COVID-19 pandemic.
The Global Competence Certificate is organized around three main components:
Global Learning
(1) Investigate the World; (2) Recognize Perspectives; (3) Communicate Ideas, and; (4) Take Action. Sample Wixsite: Global Learning
International Experiences/Engagement
Reflections on experiences engaging with diverse cultures and communities (globally and locally (“glocally”), or virtually, through traveling abroad, studying a language, doing service work, or engaging in international exchange. Sample Wixsite International Experiences
Languages and Intercultural Experiences
Reflections on language learning experiences and language literacy, as well as intercultural communication experiences at home, in the local community, or abroad. Sample Wixsite Languages and Intercultural Experiences
So, here is my blog of evidence, experiences, and reflections in all three of these components.
